Indirect Care of Special Ward Nurses in the Covid-19 Disease

Background and purpose: The most important factors in the development of any society are human resources. The Intensive Care Unites are the most important departments of the hospital especially about nursing care. Paying attention to time management and the lack of staffs in this profession and the fact that nurses spend a lot of time on indirect and non-specialized works. there is room for reflection and discussion, it is necessary to carry out necessary studies and appropriate action in relation to it. Introduction: human resources are important in healthcare systems and the intensive care unit is a more important part of that. the role of nurses in providing critical care and nursing activities is very important there So this study tried to find out more about direct nursing activities there during the Covide-19 pandemic. Methods: This study is a quantitative, descriptive-cross-sectional observational research. The research environment was the critical care units of Havtham-Tir Hospital and the research sample were nurses who continuously worked for at least 6 months there. So 42 of them were randomly selected in different shifts. Activities’ time constantly was observed and measured by the researcher's stopwatch recording. The valid tools were used for data collection.  descriptive and inferential statistics (independent t, analysis of variance, and Pearson correlation coefficient), in significance level of less than 0.05 for data analysis by SPSS software version 22 was used. Findings: In this research, the largest number of nurses (60%) were in the age range of (30-39) years and 72% of them had work experience (11-20) years. Most of the nurses were female (85%) and married (80%). The results showed that  indirect care in nursing was about 247 min per shift, the longest time in indirect care was about writing reports (34.9 ± 10.5 min/shift) and the least time was about removing personal protective equipment ( 3.19. 6.11±3.9 min/shift) have been assigned to him. Conclusion: The results showed that although in the critical condition of the patient s in Covid 19 need for direct care and continuous presence of the nurse is felt more, but despite the presence of advanced equipment in special departments to reduce indirect care of patients, the care time is still There are many indirect effects, and this is perhaps due to the sensitivity of the condition of patients with covid and the need for accurate documentation, except for the condition and unstable conditions of the patients. According to these conditions, to provide proper nursing care, it is important to increase the number of nurses during the care of covid patients and reduce their non-specialized activities.
